Films, debris and the big clear-out
Before any cleaning, remove everything left behind: protective films, boxes, masking tape. Nothing gets cleaned around protections still in place.
Large debris leaves via the removal planned for the site. A serious clean only starts with cleared floors.
Opening the windows in each room throughout lowers airborne particles and the sticky deposits on surfaces.
Surfaces, from the top down
Ceilings, corners and radiators get vacuumed before furniture and counters. Plaster dust sticks the moment it meets moisture, hence the order.
Cupboards get a double pass: one damp pass to remove grime, one to rinse. A single pass leaves marks on glossy surfaces.
Paint marks on glass usually come off with a suitable blade. On other materials, test first in a discreet corner.
Windows, floors and final checks
Windows are done at the end, including tracks and frames: site dust lands there first and shows badly.
Floors get a double wash, because fine dust stays suspended and lays down a grey film at the first hint of moisture.
